On Kaluza-Klein States from Large Extra Dimensions

چکیده
We consider the novel Kaluza-Klein (KK) scenario where gravity propagates in the 4 + n dimensional bulk of spacetime, while gauge and matter fields are confined to the 3 + 1 dimensional world-volume of a brane configuration. For simplicity we assume compactification of the extra n dimensions on a torus with a common scale R, and identify the massive KK states in the four-dimensional spacetime. For a given KK level ~n there are one spin-2 state, (n − 1) spin-1 states and n(n − 1)/2 spin-0 states, all mass-degenerate. We construct the effective interactions between these KK states and ordinary matter fields (fermions, gauge bosons and scalars). We find that the spin-1 states decouple and that the spin-0 states only couple through the dilaton mode. We then derive the interacting Lagrangian for the KK states and Standard Model fields, and present the complete Feynman rules. We discuss some low energy phenomenology for these new interactions for the case when 1/R is small compared to the electroweak scale, and the ultraviolet cutoff of the effective KK theory is on the order of 1 TeV.

Kaluza-klein Theory in Perspective
The Kaluza-Klein idea of extra spacetime dimensions continues to pervade current attempts to unify the fundamental forces, but in ways somewhat different from that originally envisaged. We present a modern perspective on the role of internal dimensions in physics, focussing in particular on su-perstring theory. A novel result is the interpretation of Kaluza-Klein string states as extreme black ...
متن کاملCosmological Constraints on Large Extra Dimensions
We calculate the production of massive Kaluza-Klein(KK) modes via nucleon-nucleon gravi-bremsstrahlung in the early universe. Overproduction of these states would result in early matter domination and therefore a low age for the universe so it is possible to place constraints on the number and size of large extra dimensions. The constraints are stronger than those from Sn1987a.
متن کاملProbing the Nature of Compactification with Kaluza-Klein Excitations at the Large Hadron Collider
It is shown that the nature of compactification of extra dimensions in theories of large radius compactification can be explored in several processes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Specifically it is shown that the characteristics of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations encode information on the nature of compactification, i.e., on the number of compactified dimensions as well as on the type ...
متن کاملKaluza-Klein states at the LHC in models with localized fermions
We give a brief review of some aspects of physics with TeV size extra-dimensions. We focus on a minimal model with matter localized at the boundaries for the study of the production of Kaluza-Klein excitations of gauge bosons. We briefly discuss different ways to depart from this simple analysis.
متن کاملDark Matter from Lorentz Invariance and the LHC
In extra dimensional models, a Dark Matter candidate can be present thanks to a Kaluza-Klein parity which makes the lightest resonances stable. However, compactifications considered sofar need the symmetry to be imposed by hand on the model: here we propose the unique orbifold in 6 dimensions where such parity arises naturally as part of the unbroken 6D Lorentz invariance. As an example we intr...
